Our community project was created in honour of my son, Hudson, who passed away in 2010 at the age of 7 months. He taught me true love, how to live life for the now, and to follow my dreams.

I’ve learned that grief isn’t linear; it takes many unexpected turns. Within all that unpredictability is another lesson: as sure as the sun sets, it will rise again, literally and figuratively. Winter changes to Spring, Spring changes to Summer, and so on.

The moments that kept me going are the ones that were the most unexpected, the ones where feelings of hope crept in, like sitting beside Lake Windermere with my eyes closed when it was all I had the strength to do, feeling the sun break through the clouds at Golden Hour and knowing that the love of those who have passed on is all around me. I believe everyone can find those moments... eventually.

Through the fog of grief, I’ve learned that I can live this life, sunrise or sunset, moment by moment. This was the inspiration for my first set of affirmation cards for grief: A Very New Monday.

In honour of Hudson’s legacy, I’m passionate about connecting with others who share the experience of grief and understand that no two grief journeys are exactly alike. Regardless of where you are on your journey (or where someone you love is on theirs) there is always room for compassion, love, and even the smallest ray of sunshine.
